[Class #1] “Hi, Nice to meet you!” – Introducing Thailand’s Culture and Major Attractions
Located in the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand is a beautiful country full of stunning nature and abundant natural resources, where many aspects of people’s everyday lives are connected to Buddhism. For the first class, the ASEAN Culture House has prepared an unforgettable experience to introduce you to the most charming aspects of Thailand and its culture. You will feel like taking a long trip around the country!
[Class #2] “Hey, you can do it too!” – Learn Basic Thai s and Characters
Thai characters have unique shapes that may look extremely difficult to learn, but this class will teach you how to write some of them and how to pronounce some basic s, so that you can have a simple conversation in Thai. We look forward to hearing you say “Sawadee ka!” or “Sawadee krap!” That’s “Hello” the way women and men say it.
[Class #3] “Into the World of Thailand’s Ramakien Epic” – Mask-making Class
Where Korea has its ‘Hong Gildong jeon,’ considered the first Korean novel, Thailand has its national epic ‘Ramakien,’ whose hero gets caught up in a war between gods and demons. In this class, we will introduce you to Ramakien and traditional Thai culture. You will also craft your own Ramakien mask and get a chance to learn traditional Thai dances.
[Class #4] “Make a Wish” – Introducing Thailand’s Loi Krathong Festival
Every year, people in Thailand celebrate the ‘Loi Krathong’ festival, during which it is tradition to make a wish and set a Krathong, or floating basket, off to float down a river or across a lake. Krathong are small, lotus-shaped baskets decorated with flowers and candles. Let's our own Krathong and make a wish!
