The University of New South Wales, located in Sydney, Australia recently appointed Dr. Gregory N. Evon as a lecturer in Korean society and literature at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He will take up his position in the middle of February. Dr. Evon majored in Korean and Chinese Literature and Language and received his M.A. degree from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from Australian National University. In 1997, He conducted research into "Literary Genre and Philosophical Discourse in the Buddhist Poetics of Han Yong-un" in Korea with the support of the Korea Foundation. The Foundation will provide his salary over the first three years, after which UNSW will maintain the professorship at its own cost. In addition, as part of the agreement between the Foundation and the Univesity, UNSW also announced that it would appoint and maintain a new Korean Language lectureship. The new lecturer will be Dr. Soyeung Koh, who received an M.A. degree from Seoul National University, Korea and a Ph.D. from Georgetown University. Dr. Koh will also take up this position in mid February. The lectureship in Korean studies at UNSW is the fourth Korea Foundation-supported Korean Studies Faculty Position to be established in Australia and we believe that the appointee will play an important role in providing a foundation for Korean research in this region.
