Professor JaHyun Kim Haboush has been appointed as of July 1, 2002 as a King Sejong Professor of Korean Studies at the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures of Columbia University. Professor Kim Haboush received her Ph.D. in Korean and Chinese History from Columbia University in 1978 and taught at the department of East Asian History and Culture, and Comparative Literature of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during 1984-2001. Her scholarly publication includes The Rise of Neo-Confucianism in Korea ('85), A Heritage of Kings: One Man's Monarchy in the Confucian World ('88), The Memoirs of Lady Hyegyeong: The Autobiographical Writings of a Crown Princess of Eighteenth-Century Korea ('96), Culture and the State in Late Joseon Korea ('99), The Confucian Kingship in Korea (2001).
