Korean Studies Chair: Full-time Professorship

A Korean Studies Chair has been established at Sciences Po in 2005, with the support of the Korea Foundation, with a view to enhancing knowledge of Korea in France and Europe.

Sciences Po, located in Paris, France has established itself as one the foremost international academic institutions on Social Sciences. With eight research centres, a Doctoral School, and more than 200 researchers, one of the major libraries in Social Sciences in Europe and a dynamic editorial activity, Sciences Po is a leading institution in international higher education. The Korean Studies Chair recruits for the 2007-08 academic year (October to early July) a specialist holding doctoral degrees within the disciplines taught at Sciences Po : economics/finance, international relations, political science, law, sociology or contemporary history.

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

The Holder of the Korean Studies Chair will be a full time professor at Sciences Po. He/she is required to teach at least three (3) regular Korean studies related courses during the academic year at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate level. Each course covers one academic semester (fourteen weeks). Teaching language can be either French or English. An office space with all facilities is provided.

A research assistant will be appointed. He/she will assist the Chair Holder in teaching activities and work towards facilitating his/her integration into Sciences Po academic circles and, where possible, into broader Korea-related activities in France. The Chair Holder will supervise the research assistant’s research studies related to Korea.

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

The Chair Holder is provided a round trip economy class airfare.

He/she is provided directly by the Korea Foundation a monthly salary of 3.900 (three thousands nine hundred) euros for the whole academic year (nine months) and with the funds necessary to cover relocation and housing costs, as well as purchase of books and other materials needed to prepare for teaching courses, travel insurance policy and a return economy-class airfare for spouse.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

A selection committee will gather by the end of April. Final decision will be made by early May. Short listed candidates may be invited for an interview at Sciences Po.
