Prof. Nikolay D. Nikandrov, President of the Russian Academy of Education will visit Korea from May 25 to May 31, 2009 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

The Russian Academy of Education (RAE) is a leader in the study of developmental physiology and physical education of children and adolescents. The institute was founded in 1944 in Moscow, as a part of the system of the RSFSR Academy of Pedagogical Sciences. When it was set up, the institute’s aim was to study hygienic problems related to the conditions of schools of general education, children’s homes, nursery schools, and specialized and out-of school institutions in the post-war era.

Prof. Nikandrov is a well-known scholar and organizer of pedagogical science, who enriched pedagogical science in the fields of comparative pedagogy, methodology of pedagogy, and didactics of the highest pedagogical school. He was re-elected as the President of RAE in 2008, and has held the office for four years.

During his stay, Prof. Nikandrov will visit the Korea Foundation, the Korea Educational Development Institute (KEDI), the Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations, the Hankook University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), and the Korea National University of Education to discuss ways to promote understanding and academic cooperation between Korea and Russia. He will also visit the Daeil Foreign Language High School (DFLHS) and meet students studying Russian as their third language. Prof. Nikandrov will also participate in the 10th Korea-Russia Forum organized by the Korea Foundation, to be held on Jeju island.
