The Korea Foundation will hold the 11th Workshop for Korean Art Curators from October 26 to November 4, 2009, having invited 36 curators from 12 countries in charge of Korean art in their museums. This year’s workshop explores various aspects of “Korean Painting Viewed in Relation to China and Japan. “

The workshop program presents a serious of lectures and a seminar program to focus on the characteristics and development of Korean painting from the Goryeo period through to the present day, reflecting the artistic exchanges with its neighboring countries. The program also includes visits to relevant museums with special exhibitions highlighting the essence and beauty of Korean art, and a field visit to enjoy the Eight Scenic Views of Danyang, a motif of Korean true-view paintings. Workshop participants will also be invited to take part in major events commemorating the centennial of museums in Korea, organized by the National Museum of Korea.

Since 1999, the Korea Foundation has been hosting this workshop program annually selecting different themes each year, to provide Korean-art curators from abroad with in-depth and intensive opportunities to explore Korean art and culture. The workshop has delivered many rewarding results as participating curators endeavor to develop and progress with their Korean galleries in their own respective countries through exhibitions and educational programs, and by forming intellectual networks among participating curators as well as with domestic specialists.
