[Invitation] Prof. Arikawa Setsuo, President of Kyushu University, Japan

Prof. Arikawa Setsuo (有川 節夫), President of Kyushu University (九州大?), Japan, will visit Korea from November 25 to 28, 2009 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

Kyushu University is the largest public university on the island of Kyushu, located in Fukuoka city. Established in 1903 as the Fukuoka Medical College, the University consists of 10 faculties and 18 research institutions and has 1,900 students and 2,000 staff. The University offers masters and doctor’s degree courses in Korean studies and also runs the Center for Korean Studies, which was established in 2000. It is the only Korean research institute in the country, and falls under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s ordinance.

Prof. Setsuo will be accompanied by Prof. Suita Sachiyo, Vice President of Kyushu University, Prof. Matsubara Takatoshi of Korean Studies and three other officials from the University.

During his stay, Prof. Arikawa will meet with the presidents of Seoul National University, Chungnam National University, the Korea Foundation, and the National Research Foundation of Korea to discuss ways to promote understanding and academic cooperation between Korea and Japan.
