[Notice] e-Resources Support for 41 institutions

  • Date Mar 29, 2010

The Foundation is pleased to provide financial assistance to 41 institutions in eight countries, as partial support, for their subscription to Korean Studies e-Resources. Under this new program, overall program support amounted to $137,600 for 2010.

In response to the growing significance of online resources for educational and research purposes, the Korea Foundation had offered financial support to a limited number of universities, in such countries as the United States, Canada, and Australia, in 2009. In 2010, the Korea Foundation sought to expand the availability of this assistance under a new program: “Support for Korean Studies e-Resources.”

The guidelines for this program include the following:
-Eligible applicants: Four-year universities that maintain a Korean Studies department, Korean Studies or Korean language program, or an East Asian program with a Korea-related component, for which the availability of relevant e-resources would be helpful for Korean Studies faculty members and graduate students.
-Program assistance is offered under a cost-sharing arrangement, covering up to 50% of the subscription fee for accessing Korean Studies e-resources. Program support per university is limited to $5,000 per year.
-Program period: One year of support. (Program application, evaluation of applicants, and selection of recipient universities are conducted annually. Renewal of program support is possible, based on overall demand and evaluation process.)

We were indeed pleased and impressed to have received some 50 applications and/or inquiries from around the world for this new program. Due to the high demand, it was not possible to extend assistance to all applicants because of the program’s limited resources. Accordingly, the Foundation selected 41 institutions in 8 countries for support under the 2010 program, based in large part on the scale of their Korean Studies program.

An announcement for the 2011 program will be posted on the Korea Foundation website and the webpages of related institutions such as Korean Studies librarian networks in December 2010.

We are hopeful that this support will serve to bolster the efforts to advance Korean Studies education and research worldwide. The Foundation thus looks forward to your continued interest in our support programs.
