[Invitation] Dr. Michael Wesley, Executive Director of the Lowy Institute for International Policy, Australia

Dr. Michael Wesley, Executive Director of the Lowy Institute for International Policy in Australia will visit Korea from July 18 to 23, 2010 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

Lowy Institute has been seeing noticeable growth for past few years as one of the international policy think tanks in Australia, despite less than 10 years since its establishment in April 2003. In particular, the institute has been contributing to the strategic policy field across the nation, as the institute is composed of celebrated academic experts, as well as current and former bureaucrats in the field of diplomacy, the economy, and national defense. Accordingly, Lowy has been exerting considerable influence when it comes to research on Australia’s diplomatic policy and its professional function of scientific advice.

Lowy institute’s vital roles are concentrated on providing a channel for active discussion on Australia’s foreign policy, through hosting debates, seminars, lectures, and conferences, including a wide range of research activities of international society—economic, political, and strategic.

Dr. Wesley, a young and promising Asia expert, is expecting to investigate partnerships with relevant organizations and universities in Korea that could help promote regular academic exchanges between Korea and Australia during this visit.

On his itinerary, to hold discussions on such cooperation, he is scheduled to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), the Grand National Party (GNP), the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS), the KDI School of Public Policy and Management, the Graduate School of Policy Studies - Korea University, Yonsei University, and Macquarie Korea. Last but not least, he is also scheduled to visit the DMZ (Demilitarized zone), Jongmyo Daeje Royal Ancestral Rites - UNESCO World Heritage, as well as enjoy a traditional cultural experience at Namsan Gukakdang in Seoul.
