1. Program ive

In response to the growing significance of online resources for education and research purposes, the Korea Foundation provides program support to eligible universities to offset the user/subscription fees that are required to access online Korean studies e-Resources, for the benefit of Korea-related scholars and students. This program thus serves to complement the existing materials distribution program.

2. Eligible Applicants

Institutions eligible to apply for program support include four-year degree universities that maintain a Center for Korean studies, Korean studies department, Korean studies or Korean language programs, or East Asian programs with a Korean component, which thus need to make relevant e-resources available for faculty members and students majoring in Korean studies.

3. Scope of Support

Up to 50 percent of the user/subscription fee(s) (total amount if there is more than one database) for accessing Korean studies e-resources. Program support per university is limited to US$5,000

* The Foundation decides on the final amount of the grant, considering the criteria set below in section 5 “Selection of Recipients.”

N.B. Institutions that receive e-Resources support will be entitled to apply for the Foundation’s Distribution of Resources for Korean Studies Program only once a year, with the amount of the DRKSP support reduced by 50 percent.

Under this program, applicable e-resources include online databases, e-journals, e-books, and other online resources offered by public institutions or private parties, such as e-Korean Studies (KISS, KSI e-book, Korea A2Z, Kdatabase, Kpjournal, LawnB), *Nurimedia (DBpia, KRpia), e-articles, Kyobo Scholar, New-Nonmun, newspapers, RISS International, etc.

N.B. *Nurimedia will continue to apply the “KF Subscription fee benefit” to the institutions that subscribe to DBpia and KRpia as long as the Foundation runs the Korean studies e-Resources support program.

• However, newly subscribing institutions will be eligible for the benefit only if they receive the Foundation’s support and subscribe to DBpia and KRpia in 2012.
  (No newly subscribing institution will be subject to the benefit starting in 2013.)

• Starting in 2013, only institutions that received the Foundation’s support in 2012 and onward will be eligible for the benefit.
  (In case your institution is not selected as the Foundation’s support recipient after 2012 even though you received support in 2012, you will not be eligible for the benefit any longer and should contact East View for subscription.)

4. Application Submission

Please complete the program application form and submit it to the Foundation, by e-mail (kmbang@kf.or.kr) or postal mail postmarked no later than March 12, 2012. (Please note that we cannot accept applications by fax). The selected recipients will be notified individually by late March 2012.

* Subscription fee negotiation with the DB vendors should be finalized before the application.

5. Selection of Recipients

The priority and amount of program assistance for an applicant will be determined by the Foundation’s screening, based on such factors as an applicant’s number of Korean studies scholars and students, extent of usage of Korean studies e-resources, and efforts to diversify the program beneficiaries, in terms of country and region.

6. Annual Report

Institutions that receive program assistance are required to submit an annual report, based on the Foundation’s prescribed form as soon as an institution’s subscription expires.
