Korea Foundation Publication Support Program

To encourage the publication of Korea-related books in non-Korean languages, the Korea Foundation provides financial support for the publication of Korea-related books by publishers worldwide.

 

As such, the plan for support for 2012-2013 is specified as below; we ask prospective publishers to carefully review the guidelines and submit the application in accordance therewith.

To encourage education and research on Korea and to promote a deeper understanding of Korea abroad

 

 

Eligibility

Overseas and domestic publishers

* Individuals (such as writers and translators) are not eligible for program assistance

 

 

Program Emphasis

 

1. Eligible publications

1) Newly written books

2) Translation of original works

 

2. Books on Korea related to such fields as the humanities, social sciences, or culture and the arts, in languages other than Korean

 

Ineligible Projects

1) Conference proceedings and research papers

2) Periodicals including special editions

3) Anthologies with more than one-half of the content being previously published articles and essays

4) Museum pamphlets and guidebooks

5) Translation and publication of literary works

 

 

Program Assistance

 

1. Project support

 

Support items

Grant amount

Newly written works

A portion of the publication costs (composition, paper, printing, )

Domestic publishers: up to 10,000,000 won

Overseas publishers: up to $10,000

Translated works

A portion of publication costs and translation fees

Domestic publishers: up to 20,000,000 won

Overseas publishers: up to $20,000

* Writer’s remuneration, copyright fee, and proofreading fee are not eligible for program support.

  For translations, copyright arrangements should be finalized before the application.

 

 

2. Number of Grants: About 20 grants per calendar year, depending on available program funding

 

3. Grant Period: 12 months. The works receiving assistance should be published within 12 months after receipt of the grant approval

    Grant will be offered after completion of the publication project

 

4. Obligations of the Recipient

1) Mention the Korea Foundation’s program support as part of the book’s acknowledgement section

2) Provide the Foundation with 20 complimentary copies of the publication and the "Completion of Publication Project" form to the Foundation (the form will be provided after the notification of grant approval)

3) Offer the Foundation a price discount of at least 30 percent, should the Foundation request the purchase of additional copies of the publication

4) Provide information about the sales and distribution of the publication to the Foundation, upon request

 

 

Application Procedures

 

1. Application s

1) Application form (Korea Foundation application form is attached)

2) Resume of author (editor, compiler, translator, as applicable)

3) (In the case of a translated work) the original author’s comments on the translation

4) The completed manuscript (newly written or translated)

  ※ Applicants are required to submit to KF all of the above ation, in English or Korean, and submit each in each PDF file format via email

  ※ 4) shall be submitted in English or other languages; in the case of the latter, an  English summary (5~10 pages) should be added

5) A hard-copy of the manuscript should be submitted by postal mail

2. Deadline for application

- Deadline for the first half of the year: March 30

 

3. Notification of grant approval

- Applicants will be directly notified of the Foundation’s grant approval in June

4. Ability of publisher

5. Appropriateness of the budget
