Support for Korean Studies e-Resources (2013)

The deadline for submitting applications for the Support for Korean Studies e-Resources (2013), which was originally set at January 31, 2013, has been extended to March 31, 2013, for those applicant institutions that have not yet received Foundation assistance from this Program.

 

1. Program ive
In response to the growing significance of online resources for both education and research purposes, the Korea Foundation offers Program support to eligible universities to offset the subscription fees that are required to access online Korean Studies e-Resources. This program thus serves to benefit Korea-related scholars and students, along with supplementing the Foundation’s Reference Materials Distribution Program.

 

2. Eligible Applicants
Institutions eligible for consideration under this Program include four-year degree universities that maintain: a center for Korean Studies, Korean Studies department, Korean Studies or Korean language programs, or East Asian programs with a Korea-related component. However, Institutions that have previously received Program assistance are not allowed to apply during this extended application period.

 

3. Amount of Support
Up to fifty percent of the subscription fee amount for accessing Korean Studies e-Resources. The maximum Program support is $5,000 per year for an individual institution.

 

-The Foundation will determine on the amount of its Program support after evaluating an applicant in accordance with the criteria of Section 5: “Selection of Recipients.”


For this Program, applicable e-resources include online databases, e-journals, e-books, and other online resources that are offered by public institutions or private sources, such as e-Korean Studies (KISS, KSI e-book, KoreaA2Z, Kdatabase, KPjournal, Korean History and Culture Research Database, History Culture Series, LawnB), Nurimedia (DBpia, KRpia), Kyobo Scholar, newspapers, e-articles, New-Nonmun, RISS International.

 

4. Application Procedures
Please complete the Program application form and submit it to the Korea Foundation, by e-mail (e-resources@kf.or.kr), or postal mail with a postmark, no later than March 31, 2013. Please note that we cannot accept applications by fax. The selected recipients will be individually notified by April 2013.

 

-Any negotiations of the fee rates of DB vendors should be finalized prior to the submission of an application.

 

5. Selection of Recipients
The Korea Foundation’s screening committee will determine the priority and amount of program assistance for an applicant by taking into consideration the following criteria: the institution’s number of Korean Studies scholars and students; likely extent of usage of Korean Studies e-resources; and diversity of program recipients, in terms of country and region.

 

6. Annual Report
An Annual Report, based on the Foundation’s form, is a requirement for all institutions that receive support from this program, which is due one month after the conclusion of an institution’s support period.
