ASEAN Culture House, which is operated by the Korea Foundation, is proud to present ASEAN Crafts: From Heritage to the Contemporary, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations. The exhibition is shown simultaneously in two different venues; ASEAN Pavilion at Cheongju Craft Biennale and ASEAN Culture House located in Busan.

The most extraordinary value of the craftwork of ASEAN, with all its long and rich history, is the simultaneous embrace of tradition and refusal to be confined to the past. In order to keep tradition “living and breathing,” ASEAN’s master artisans, artists and designers are constantly expanding boundaries by reinterpreting and applying traditions in ways that are in line with modern ideas and practices.

In both places, guests will be able to experience the cultural creativity and richness of the ten ASEAN Member States through the crafts on display in both places. Ultimately, this exhibition aims to offer a meaningful opportunity for visitors to see how the traditions of each ASEAN country communicate with the present and are evolving in preparation for the future and also to think of ways to reinterpret and re their own cultures to suit the 21st century.

The ASEAN Culture House (ACH) is proud to present ASEAN Crafts: From Heritage to the Contemporary, an exhibition in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-ROK dialogue relations. Audiences will be able to see traditional craft items with all of their long history alongside artworks from contemporary ASEAN artists making use of the techniques and/or materials of ASEAN’s distinctive crafts. Ultimately, the ACH hopes to offer a meaningful opportunity for visitors to see how the traditions of each ASEAN country communicate with the present and are evolving in preparation for the future, offering insight to guests into how to reinterpret their own cultures to suit the 21st century.
