Korean Language and Culture Zip

Thus far, education on Korean culture has focused on providing knowledge about Korea? traditional culture. However, education on Korean culture, which is provided in conjunction with Korean language education, needs to emphasize more up-to-date and substantive information. For most foreigners who encounter the Korean language for the first time, their initial interest is most likely related to a variety of information on the lifestyle and culture of present-day Korea as well as the language itself.
However, in regard to the reality of Korean education overseas, there is much to be desired in terms of educational material. First of all, there are no educational materials on cultural education that consider the age of students or whether a student might already have knowledge of the language. Second, there are no cultural education training materials with different levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) according to a student? proficiency in Korean, when it is being provided along with Korean language education. And lastly, there are no material published in consideration of the native language or nationality of a student, or what the motivation of a student might be to learn Korean. In addition, relatively diverse supplementary training materials have been developed and are used in Japan or North America, but in comparison these kinds of materials are not available for students from China, Southeast Asia, or Southwest Asia, despite a fast-growing demand. These areas have an increasing number of Korean language students due to the recent ?orean Wave?phenomenon, as well as growing interest in securing employment from Korean or foreign companies, or gaining entrance to a Korean university.
In this context, development of the Korean Language and Culture Zip is intended to provide a reference material on tangible, substantive, and up-to-date modern Korean culture, in consideration of a student? age, native language, and Korean language ability, as well as a multifunctional and comprehensive information source that can be used alongside Korean language education.
Thus, the training material on Korean culture education was developed under the following four principles: first, to increase mutual understanding of both cultures under a comparative cultural perspective between Korean and other Asian countries; second, to promote understanding and to introduce modern-day Korean lifestyle and culture through Korean language education; third, to provide specific and practical knowledge and information on Korean society and culture; and lastly, to provide understanding of traditional Korean culture through an understanding of contemporary Korean lifestyle and culture.
This publication, which is targeted for university students in Asia in their late teens to early twenties with an interest in learning about Korea? language and culture, or any other foreigners of a corresponding level (novice high to intermediate low), in terms of their Korean language ability, who would like to learn Korean as a foreign language, provides up-to-date cultural information on Korea and promotes understanding of the Korean language.
This training material comprises a volume of photographs and audio content for Korean culture education. The photograph collection is divided into three sections: ?njoying Korea,??iving in Korea,?and ?nowing about Korea,?while the audio content, which supplements the themes and scenes of the photographs, is designed so that each unit begins with a key photo, then presents key vocabulary, listening exercises, activities, and a summary of vocabulary and s.
This training material was especially developed for students of Korean language in Asia, but will be helpful not only for students from Asian countries but from all over the world who have limited access to Korean culture for their understanding of the Korean language and culture. In addition, it can serve as a useful educational tool for Korean language teachers.
