20th Anniversary of Korean Language Department of Thailand's Songkhla University in Thailand
In 1986, Songkhla University was the first university to establish a Korean language department in Thailand. The Foundation sponsored events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Korean Language Department of songkhla University on January 20-21, 2006.

Support for Participation in Chingay Parade in Singapore
The Foundation provided support to the Municipal Dance Company of Changwon for its participation in the Chingay Parade of Singapore. The Chingay Parade is an annual cultural event with a 34-year history held to celebrate the Lunar New Year's Day, with representatives from over 30 countries showing off their local culture. This year's event was held on February 3-4. After participating in the parade, the Changwon Metropolitan Dance Company presented a traditional Korean dance performance on February 5, at the cultural center of National Singapore University.

Support for International Conferences
The Foundation extended support for three international conferences held from February to April: (1) "The War Footing under Japanese Colonial Rule and Mobilization of Koreans: Conscription, Draft, Comfort Women" organized by Naksungdae Economic Research Institute (March 3), (2) First Conference of the Asia-Pacific Association of International Education (APAIE) (March 29-April 1), and (3) "Koreans, Korean Literature, and Studies on Korean Literature in the World" organized by the Society of Korean Literature Studies in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of its founding (April 21-22).

Daeboreum Event for Korean Language Fellows
More than 40 Foundation fellows participated in a (first full moon of the year) event held at an eco-farm facility located in Yangsu-ri, Gyeonggi-do province on February 11. The participants learned how to cook traditional Korean food and played a variety of Korean games, such as ganggangsulae, daljiptaewugi, and jwibulnori.

Korean Cuisine Program for Korean Missions Abroad
The Foundation organized courses on table settings and cooking of traditional Korean food for the wives of Korean ambassadors serving overseas, on February 16-17. The Foundation retained the Korean Food Research Institute of Sookmyung Women's University to develop the program content, which included instruction on ways to gracefully introduce the taste of Korean food to foreigners as well as its nutritional value and underlying philosophy. The program featured lectures and a demonstration of traditional banquet food and table settings for a summer luncheon and winter dinner.

"On Difference #2: Grenzwertig"
The Foundation provided assistance to "On Difference #2: Grenzwertig," an international art exhibition held from February 18 through April 30 at the Stuttgart Art Museum of Germany. The exhibition introduced the contemporary art of six countries: Korea, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria, India, and Brazil. It included a section for each country, which exhibited works related to domestic social issues. The Korean section displayed digital photos and online creations by Roh Jae Oon, Jeon Joon-ho, Kim Ki-ra, Ligyung, Moon Hyung-min, Noh Soon-tag, Kim Tae Joong, Yang A-chi, and Lee Yong-baek, under a theme of "Middle Korea."

Farewell Get-together for Diplomats of Korean Language Training
The Foundation held a farewell get-together for the 13 diplomats who participated in Korean language training at the Korea House in Seoul on February 21, to provide an opportunity for the participants to reflect upon their one-year Korean language training and to develop personal relationships.

Workshop for Korean Language Teachers of Southeast and Southwest Asia
The Foundation held a follow-up workshop for those who visited Korea to participate in the 2004-2005 training program for Korean language educators from Southeast and Southwest Asia, at Burapa University in Thailand (February 23-26). This workshop focused on efficient ways to apply their learning in Korea to actual classroom instruction. Fifty teachers from Thailand, Vietnam, India, Indonesia and Malaysia attended the workshop, which was co-organized by the International Association for Korean Language Education, to discuss issues of common interests.

Hwang Byung-ki's Gayageum Performances in the U.K. and France
For the "2006 Korea-U.K. Mutual Visit Year" and the 120th anniversary of Korea-France diplomatic relations, the Foundation organized a gayageum concert tour of the U.K. and France by Hwang Byung-ki, a professor emeritus of Ewha Womans University and Korea's foremost gayageum master. Prof. Hwang's gayageum concerts were held at the Asia House in London (February 23), the Brunei Gallery at the University of London (February 24), the House of World Cultures in Paris (February 27-28), and the Asian Museum in Nice (March 3).

Visit of Next-generation Leaders from Eastern Europe
The Foundation hosted the visit to Korea of a group of next-generation leaders, which included journalists and diplomatic officials from Eastern European countries, such as Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia-Montenegro, Croatia, Austria, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Albania, from March 7-14.

Welcoming Session for Diplomats of Korean Language Training
The Foundation held a welcoming and orientation session for 20 diplomats from 15 countries at the Hoam Faculty Hall of Seoul National University (March 13), to inaugurate their 12-month Korean language training.

"Jindo Ssitgim Gut" European Tour
The Foundation organized a European tour of Jindo Ssitgim Gut (shaman ritual for cleansing the soul of the deceased) from March 13-17. Performances of Park Byong-chon, who has been designated by the government as Important Intangible Cultural Asset No. 72 for his expertise in Ssitgim Gut, were presented in three European countries, at the Theatre du Soleil in Paris, France (March 13), the Center for World Culture Zuiderpershuis in Antwerp, Belgium (March 15), and the Royal Tropical Institute Tropentheater in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (March 17).

Farewell Get-together for 2005 Korean Language Fellows
The Foundation held a get-together to celebrate completion of the training program for 2005 Korean language fellows on March 16, during which time they reflected upon their fellowship experiences.

Training for Korean Language Teachers of Southeast and Southwest Asia
The Foundation invited Korean language educators from universities in Southeast and Southwest Asian regions in cooperation with the International Association for Korean Language Education. The training was held from March 20-31 at Kookmin University with the participation of eighteen Korean language teachers from Thailand, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan.

Visit of Next-generation Leaders from Central & South America
The Foundation hosted the visit to Korea of 10 next-generation leaders, including representatives from the business sector and diplomatic services, of such Central & South American nations as Brazil, Columbia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Trinidad Tobago, Belize, and Jamaica, on March 21-28.

7th Korea-Russia Forum
In conjunction with the Russian Diplomatic Academy, the Foundation held the 7th Korea-Russia Forum in Moscow, on March 27-28, 2006. At the forum, the delegates from Korea and Russia participated in in-depth discussion sessions on such subjects as "Securing the Safety and Stability on the Korean Peninsula," "Korea-Russia Cooperation in Trade, Economy, and Science/Technology," and "Korea-Russia Cooperation in Cultural and Humanitarian Efforts." Of note, in accordance with the joint statement issued at the Korea-Russia summit meeting in September 2004, which called for active promotion of the Korea-Russia Forum as a dialogue channel between the two countries, the Vice Foreign Ministers of the two countries delivered keynote speeches at the forum.

Tour of Seoul Baroque Ensemble to Poland and the Czech Republic
The Foundation extended support for the Seoul Baroque Ensemble's participation in the 10th anniversary event of the Beethoven International Music Festival of Poland and a concert in the Czech Republic, on April 7-12. The Beethoven International Music Festival, with musical director Chrizistoph Penderetzki, the world-renowned composer, is Eastern Europe's largest international music festival. Well-known international musicians, like Placido Domingo, Arto Noras, Christoph Eschenbach, Chang Han-na, and Kim Ji-yeon, were featured at this year's festival.

Eun Me Ahn Company's Participation in the World Music Theater Festival
The Foundation supported a European tour of the Eun Me Ahn Company for performances of its original dance work "Chun-hyang," from April 7-20. "Chunhyang" was staged eight times during this tour, at the invitation of the World Music Theater Festival, in four European countries: the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, and the U.K. "Chunhyang" is a new version of "Eun Me Ahn's Chunhyang," originally shown in Korea in 2003, which was produced in conjunction with a co-production initiative of the World Music Theater Festival.

Support for International Events Held Overseas
The Foundation supported the participation of Prof. Kim Young-jong, of Soongsil University, at the "w006 World Ethics Forum," held at Oxford University in the U.K. (April 9-11).
