1.18th Sogang-Korea Foundation Korean Studies Forum
September 19, 2007
Co-hosted with the Institute of International Area Studies, Sogang University, the 18th session was held to promote exchange and facilitate networking among Korean studies scholars and students. Dr. Heo Yoon, Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, Sogang University, presented a paper titled, ‘The Economic Rationale and Empirical Evidence of Trade Adjustment Assistance Program in Korea,’ in Korean.

2.73rd Yonsei-Korea Foundation Korean Studies Forum
October 2, 2007
Co-hosted with the Institute of Modern Korean Studies, Yonsei University, the 73rd session was held to promote exchange and facilitate networking among Korean studies scholars and students. Dr. Young-lob Chung, Professor at the Department of Economics, Eastern Michigan University in the United States, presented a paper titled, ‘Korea under Siege, 1876-1945: Capital Formation and Economic Transformation,’ in English.

3.2007 Korea-Japan Secondary School Educators’ Exchange
October 3-16, 2007
A total of 23 Korean secondary school teachers of history and social studies, selected by the Ministry of Education and local Offices of Education, visited Kyoto, Nara, and Hiroshima, Japan, during a 14-day stay, at the invitation of the Japan Foundation. The teachers attended lectures on Japan’s culture, history, and education; personally experienced Japanese culture; toured historic and cultural sites; and visited local schools to meet with Japanese teachers and students.

4.Korean Speech Contest in Hong Kong
October 6, 2007
Chinese University of Hong Kong organized a speech contest in which Korean language students and learners participated.

5.‘Korea Week’ at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India
October 9-12, 2007
Jawaharlal Nehru University hosted a “Korea Week” to introduce Korean culture through a variety of events, including a performance of “The Old Man with a Lump,” various exhibitions, and a Korean food festival.

6.Korean Speech Contest in Malaysia
October 26, 2007
With support from the Foundation, the Korean Embassy in Malaysia and the University of Malaya organized a speech contest for Korean language learners, primarily university students.

7.Sixth Korea-Germany Forum
October 18-20, 2007
The Foundation extended support for the organization of the sixth Korea-Germany Forum. Co-hosted by the Korean-German Association (Chairperson: Choe Chung-Ho) and the Germany-Korea Forum Committee (Chairperson: Hartmut Koschyk), the forum was held in Munich, Germany. A total of 40 participants from both sides, representing the fields of diplomacy, security, economy, trade, and journalism, discussed such major issues as security on the Korean Peninsula, European integration, and prospects for a Korea-EU FTA.

8.Invitation of Next-Generation Leaders of Russia
October 18-24, 2007
The Foundation hosted the visit of 10 young leaders involved with Russia’s governmental, political, parliamentary, and cultural sectors. During their stay in Korea, the Russian guests visited relevant organizations and people, and toured various cultural, historic, and industrial sites to enhance their understanding about Korea and develop personal networks with their Korean counterparts to promote more cooperative relations.

9.Seventh Korea-India Forum
October 22-24, 2007
The Foundation provided assistance to the Seoul Forum for International Affairs for its organization of the seventh Korea-India Forum. With the attendance of 26 representatives from both countries, this year’s forum discussed various matters of mutual concern, ranging from political issues to Korea-India economic cooperation, and international affairs.

Korea-Vietnam Contemporary Art Exhibition: Good Morning Vietnam, Good Morning Korea
October 23-november 3, 2007
To observe the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Vietnam, “Korea-Vietnam Contemporary Art Exhibition: Good Morning Vietnam, Good Morning Korea” will be held at the Gallery Areum of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center. The exhibition features about 50 works by the two countries’ leading artists: 11 from Vietnam and eight from Korea.

‘Juan Soriano on Paper, Tapestry,

Bronze and Silver’ Exhibition
November 7-28, 2007
The exhibition, ‘Juan Soriano on Paper, Tapestry, Bronze and Silver’ is being held at the Galleries Areum and Nuri of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center. Organized by the Embassy of Mexico in Korea, the exhibition displays 57 artworks of the famous Mexican artist and sculptor, Juan Soriano, who was also known as El Mozart de la Pintura, or ‘The Mozart of painting’). Visitors will be able to enjoy various forms of artworks, including 27 paintings, five tapestries, and 25 mid-sized sculptures in bronze and silver.

2007 Korean Culture Program in Vietnam: Lecture and Seminar on Korean Cinema

A special lecture on Korea’s film industry will be presented to Vietnamese students majoring in film and cinema professionals. In cooperation with the city of Busan, which maintains a sister-city relationship with Ho Chi Minh City, a seminar will be also be undertaken to promote exchange and cooperation between the film sectors of the two countries.

To celebrate “Korea Day,” Ankara University’s Korean Language and Literature Department students will present a fashion show of the traditional Korean costume, hanbok, popular Korean music performance, taekwondo demonstration and instruction, and hands-on experiences related to Korean culture.

12th Korea-China Forum for the Future
November 23-26, 2007
The Foundation will be hosting the 12th Korea-China Forum for the Future, a comprehensive bilateral dialogue channel, on Jeju Island. With the attendance of about 30 representatives from Korea and China, the forum will discuss major pending issues of the two countries.

Kyushu University Korea-related Symposium for Fukuoka Residents
November 24, 2007
Under a theme of “Calligraphy Told by the Koreans and the Japanese,” calligraphy specialists from the two countries will engage in discussion and provide a demonstration for the residents of Fukuoka Prefecture. Calligraphy works d by Korean and Japanese students will also be exhibited.
