1. 74th Yonsei-KF Korean Studies Forum
October 16
Professor Valerie Gelezeau, Korean Studi-es scholar at EHESS in France, gave a presentation entitled “Changing Socio-Economic Environments, Housing Culture and New Urban Segregation in Seoul.”

2. Visit of Next-Generation Leaders from Russia and Armenia
October 18-24
The Foundation hosted the visit to Korea of eight next-generation leaders from Russia and Armenia.

3. 19th Sogang-KF Korean Studies Forum
October 24
Dr. Cho Hee-jeong, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of Sogang University, gave a presentation entitled “Politics of the Information Society in Korea.”

4. Korea-Vietnam 15th Anniversary Art Exhibition
October 23-november 3
To commemorate the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Vietnam, a contemporary art exhibition “Good Morning Vietnam, Good Morning Korea,” was presented at Gallery Areum of the KF Cultural Center.


5. Korean Speech Contest in Malaysia
October 26
The Korean Embassy in Malaysia and the University of Malaya co-hosted a Korean Speech Contest for students who are learning the Korean language in Malaysia.

6. Third Korean Studies Conference for Central and South America
October 29-30
At this year’s conference, held at Pontifical Catholic University of Sao Paolo, Brazil, 25 Korean Studies scholars from this region gathered together to present papers and discuss various issues.

7. Third Korean Speech Contest in Singapore
November 3
The Korean Embassy in Singapore hosted the third Korean Speech Contest, for local and foreign residents of Singapore, to encourage learning of the Korean language and broaden interest in Korea’s culture and people.

8. 20th Sogang-KF Korean Studies Forum
November 7
Dr. Cui Yi, Associate Professor at the Korean Studies College at Yanbian University, China, gave a presentation entitled “Manchuria, Diaspora, and Northern Aspect”.

9. Second Korea-ASEAN Forum
November 7
The second Korea-ASEAN Forum, held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, was co-hosted by the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security of Korea and the Institute of International Affairs of Vietnam. The forum was attended by some 30 specialists from the two countries.

10. Lecture and Seminar Program on Korean Cinema in Vietnam
November 7-10
Special lectures and seminars on Korea’s movie industry were presented in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to promote a better understanding of Korean cinema there and encourage more active exchange and cooperation between the film sectors of Korea and Vietnam.

11. Juan Soriano on Paper, Tapestry, Bronze and Silver
November 8-28
The Mexican Embassy in Korea sponsored an exhibition of the works of Juan Soriano, Mexican artist and sculptor who is known as “El Mozart de la Pintura” (Mozart of painting), which was shown at the Nuri and Areum galleries of the KF Cultural Center.

12. 75th Yonsei-KF Korean Studies Forum
November 8
Whitney Taejin Hwang, Ph.D. candidate at the Department of History, University of California, Berkeley, gave a presentation entitled “Power and Space: Negotiating Military Landscapes in the Republic of Korea, 1945-1965.”


13. International Conference on Esoteric Buddhist Traditions
November 9-11
An international conference, focused on the common philosophical foundation and individual characteristics of the esoteric Buddhist traditions of Korea, China, and Japan, was hosted by Yale University.

14. Seoul Asian Visual Arts Festival 2007
November 9-december 7
An Asian visual arts festival was organized to present the works of visual artists representing various Asian countries, including Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, India, and Korea.

15. Korean Week Programs at Ankara University, Turkey
November 13-15
The Department of Korean Language and Literature of Ankara University, Turkey, staged various events to introduce Korean culture, including a hanbok fashion show, traditional Korean music fusion performance, and exhibition of Korean hanji (traditional paper) crafts, along with demonstrations of taekwondo pumsae, and traditional Korean games.

The First Korean Studies Workshop will be held for senior-ranking Vietnamese local government officials, who deal with Korea-related affairs. The workshop seeks to correct any distorted information on Korea and contribute to a more positive image of Korea among the Vietnamese people.

Mimmo Sinisca Exhibition

The Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul are sponsoring an exhibi-tion of 176 works of Mimmo Sinisca, who has d a diversity of art works as a painter, lithographer, ceramic artist, scene designer, jeweler, sculptor, designer, typesetter, and photographer, over the past 55 years.

Cubism and Czech Architecture

The Korea Foundation’s 16th Anniversary Winter Concert -‘Reminiscences’
