2014 Plan of Programs for the Public Diplomacy Department

Global Internship and Youth Exchange Programs

The Korea Foundation offers various training programs to cultivate global-minded citizens and to make known the importance of public diplomacy among the Korean public. In 2014, we will support programs using diplomacy as a means to jobs and overseas opportunities for young Koreans. For this, efforts are being made to improve the effectiveness of the KF Youth Exchange and KF Global Leadership Camp.

Hereafter, we intend to customize these programs in order to encourage the participation of people from arious segments of society, including the disadvantaged, children of multiethnic families, and provincial residents. Through our internship programs, the Foundation provides a variety of hands-on experiences at prominent organizations, both within and outside Korea. Based on the momentum of successful KF Global Internship programs at various host institutions, the Foundation intends to conclude cooperative agreements with more participant organizations.

Public diplomacy activities for Korean citizens

The Korea Foundation encourages valuable private-sector collaboration as part of its Public Diplomacy with the People initiative, which is meant to activate citizen diplomacy, one of the major assets of Korea’s public diplomacy strategy. In 2014, by fair selection process, we intend to continue expanding the platform to support the private-sector entities which have creative ideas and capability. In addition, we plan to facilitate international exchange between Korea and the regions where such interaction is rather limited thus far (including Russia, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa) and broaden the scope of programs so that ordinary citizens eligible can voice their opinions about domestic and global issues.
