Learning Traditional Dance and Staying Cool by Rafting on the Donggang River

During the muggy month of June, the Korean Culture Class had a chance to watch a performance of the traditional Korean dance seungmu and to learn the Jinju gyobanggutgeori dance. Sara Lis Ventura from Italy shared her impression of the dance. "The dance movements in seungmu, which show the beauty of the moment, are slow and static, but I could feel their vitality," Sara said. In July, when the monsoon rains were at their worst, members of the class went rafting on the Donggang River in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do Province. It was an event where all of the participants got to know each other as they cooled off on the river. German Jan Behrens, who said that he had never been rafting before, talked about the good time he had had. "I was a little nervous at first, but I haven't been this excited in a long time," Jan said. "I'm going to brag about this to my wife when I get home."
