Early Korea Project

Early Korea Project

Under Director Sun Joo Kim, the Korea Institute at Harvard University supports research on early Korean history for readers in the U.S. and other English-speaking countries as part of its mission to advance the study of ancient Korean history and archeology. The Early Korea Project, spearheaded by Dr. Mark Byington, has helped to focus attention on the study of Korea’s early history through a variety of related activities. This project offers workshops and lecture sessions on the period and publishes the Early Korea series, compilations of relevant essays. Volumes of the Early Korea series have been used as Korean Studies textbooks at a number of universities in the U.S., thereby helping to broaden a proper understanding of early Korean history. This project is being conducted with support from the Korea Foundation and the Northeast Asian History Foundation.
