Tango Oriental:
Three Visions of Tango in Uruguay Exhibition

Together with the Embassy of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, the Korea Foundation is presenting the Tango Oriental: Three Visions of Tango in Uruguay exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Uruguay. In 2009, tango was declared by UNESCO as part of Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is said that tango appeared in Rio de la Plata in the late 19th century from a blending of the cultural influences of European immigrants, African slave descendants, and native inhabitants of the region. Tango has since become the representative dance and music genre of Uruguay and Argentina. This exhibition features contemporary visions of tango through the works of three artists from Montevideo, Uruguay: Pedro Lombardi, Daniel Machado, and Roberto Saban. During the exhibition period, weekly supplemental programs related to the exhibition will be held at the seminar room of the KF Cultural Center.
