A PHOTO EXHIBITION OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC’S CARNAVAL

Our Country, Our People, Our Carnaval

Our Country, Our People, Our Carnaval

A photo exhibition that depicted the unique cultural festivities of the Dominican Republic’s Carnaval: Our Country, Our People, Our Carnaval, was presented on April 24-May 9, at the KF Gallery. A festival where celebrants revel in ancient customs while costumed in various disguises, Carnaval is a nationwide event held every Sunday in February, drawing people of all types who energize the country’s major provinces, such as La Vega and Santiago.
Hosted by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Seoul, this exhibition portrayed Dominican culture as well as the history of Carnaval through the works of photographers Juan J. de los Santos and Mariano Hernandez. The faces of Dominicans, celebrating with dance and music while laughing with unrestrained vitality, convey the sheer delight of attendees as do the vivid colors of their costumes. Through photographs of a festival filled with joy and passion for life, the exhibition helped to remind visitors of the beautiful blessings we’ve all been granted.
