EXPERIENCE KOREA’S TRADITIONAL HOLIDAYS

On the last Saturday of February, the Korean Culture Class Team of the KF Volunteer Network held an event so that foreign residents in Korea could experience Korea’s traditional holidays. The event started out at the Gwangjang Market in Seoul’s Jongno district. After splitting up into teams, each team toured the market, sampling various local delicacies. Then, after each team purchased a specific item, everyone met up at the Bukchon Hanok Village near Anguk Station. At the village, each team contributed an item purchased from the market, which was served together with homemade holiday treats to a food extravaganza. Afterward, participants had a chance to dress in Korea’s traditional clothing, known as hanbok, as well as to learn how to make a formal bow the traditional way. The event concluded with a match of gongginori, a game played with small stones or plastic pebbles, and jegichagi, a traditional game in which ps kick an that resembles a badminton shuttlecock, as well as other traditional games. All in all, this was a meaningful event that allowed Koreans and foreign residents to experience traditional festivities together.
