Based on an agreement reached during the Korea-Japan Summit of 1993, the Korea-Japan Forum is a private-level dialogue that is regularly held for key figures from both countries. This year’s event, the gathering’s 23rd session, is being held to commemorate the 50 years since the normalization of Korea-Japan relations. As such, it is a timely opportunity to reflect on the Korea-Japan relationship, conduct frank discussion on pending issues, and prepare practical proposals to help the two governments initiate a new era of bilateral relations. This occasion will also mark the launch of the Korea-Japan Junior Forum, an arena to discuss the upcoming roles of aspiring young leaders in an effort to upgrade the two countries’ cooperative partnership by building personal relationships.
